This is the cheapest and most basic network.

Most schools in Leicestershire have multiple layer 1 switches

connected to a layer 2 switch.

Layer 1 switches process data slowly compared to Layer 2 or 3

switches.

 

These switches offer no security to any devices connected

to them.

All schools are recommended NOT to buy Layer 1 switches as

they will not integrate with future networking needs.
